Site Safety & Security

Security Barrier

For security, the site barrier is locked at 10pm and unlocked at 7am. There is parking available outside and pedestrian access during these hours. The barrier will only be unlocked in case of emergency. We do not have an early/late arrivals area.


Speed Limit

We have a strict 5mph speed limit on site which applies to all vehicles, including bicycles.

On-Site Amenities


Reception is always open between 9am and 11am and between 4pm and 6pm and often at other times during the day.  All new arrivals between 1pm and 8pm in high season but before 7pm in low season please.


Open during Reception hours. We sell Calor and Camping Gaz, maps, toilet chemicals, rock pegs and camping sundries. Milk, bread, eggs, bacon, cakes, drinks, canned and dry groceries, ice cream, sweets and other locally sourced produce. Newspapers to order. We are also licensed to sell beers, wines and spirits for consumption off the premises.

Laundry Area.

Commercial quality laundry equipment is available for a charge. Detergent is available from reception. There are hand washing sinks and outdoor drying lines. A National Park regulation does not allow washing lines around the park or units.


For your convenience, tourist and local information can be found in the laundry and accessed 24 hours a day, however we will be pleased to help with any information you require in Reception if needed.

Dogs and Pets

All dogs and pets are welcome. Our dog walk is heralded as one of the best. A 1km part sloping walk offers walking with superb views of Dartmoor. Dog bins are provided and a seat half way round is a place to spend a short time admiring the surrounding views. All we ask is that all pets be kept on a short lead and under control on every part of the site including the dog walk at all times.


Wireless internet is available on site, for which a small daily charge is made.

On-Site Services

Drinking Water and Waste Water

There are a number of fresh water points and grey water drains throughout the site. There is also a dedicated Motor-Home service bay with fresh water, grey and black waste drains. Portable Elsan disposal is at the rear of the facilities building.


Electric hook-ups provide 16 amps peak output. Please help us to respect the environment by careful use of electricity.

Toilet Block

Cleaning closing time is 11am to 12.30pm. The Parent and Child room (toilet and hand washing only) is open during these hours. Keys to both our disabled and parent and child rooms are available to those who need them for the duration of their stay on payment of a refundable £5 deposit. Our centrally heated facilities offer showers and private wash cubicles, together with ample toilets, all maintained to the highest levels of cleanliness.


Rubbish and Recycling

Disposal points can be found throughout the site. We currently re-cycle clean glass, cans, paper and cardboard.



Soft ball games are permitted away from all units on site. We do not allow frisbees, kites and other projectile activities on site. There is a recreation ground close to the site which is open to the public.


Walking is virtually endless from the site. We will be pleased to advise and suggest walks. Try letterboxing on Dartmoor (a form of orienteering). Good walking clothing and footwear is advisable when walking on Dartmoor, but please keep clear of MOD areas we can advise about MOD firing areas and timings.


The famous, mainly level, Granite Way Cycle Path starts near the site. Ask for a leaflet and advice. The local terrain is otherwise hilly and should be taken into consideration before setting out.


City Bus 11

Normally runs every two hours from the War Memorial (100 yds) south to Plymouth via Tavistock and north to Barnstaple via Okehampton.

Brief Site Description

  • Lydford Caravan and Camping Park is in a very quiet location close to Lydford village and enjoying excellent views of Dartmoor.

Booking Information

Arrival information

  • The Site is mainly open with hedgerows and trees dividing main areas.
  • Roads of granite chippings service all parts of the site and a 5mph speed restriction is in place.
  • The approach to the site must be by following the described route. SatNav should not be used after leaving the A30 due to some narrow lanes.
  • Between 7.00am and 11.00pm the site is accessed via a security gate. Provision is made for pedestrian and wheelchair access at all times.
  • Between 11.00pm and 7.00am vehicle movement is prohibited on site, the main gate is locked and will only be opened in the event of an emergency.
  • Overnight car parking is provided in the visitors parking area.
  • New arrivals should time their arrival between the hours of 1pm and 8pm during May to September inclusive and up to 7pm during the rest of the season.

Reception area information

  • Access to Reception is on one level at the site entrance. There is an 80mm step to a 760mm wide door. There is space within for wheelchair users. If Reception is closed “staff on duty” door bells are provided or signs detailing staff whereabouts will be posted in the window.

Pitch Information

  • The site offers a mixture of hard standing and grass pitches. All hardstanding pitches have electric hook up. Grass pitches for caravans and tents have electric hook up.There is a quiet tent only area at the rear of the site with no electric.
  • As a fire precaution, units must be 6 metres away from adjacent units.
  • All customers are shown to a pitch and the site facilities explained, with attention paid to special requirements.
  • Where necessary assistance with pitching will be offered.

Facility Information (toilets, showers, dishwashing and laundry, including access walkways).

  • All facilities are in one building close to the site entrance but easily accessed from all areas of the site. All doors are accessed by gentle ramps with handrails.
  • A heated dedicated 2400mm x 2400mm Disabled facility/wet room is accessed via an 800mm door. Equipment includes a variable temperature and adjustable height push button shower with grab handles and ample room for a wheelchair, a high level toilet pan with grab rails; wash hand basin with soap dispenser, hand drying towels, and sanitary disposal.
  • The heated Gents facility includes 4 push button shower cubicles, 2 private wash cubicles, 4 toilets, 3 urinals, and 5 further wash hand basins with soap dispenser and electric hand dryer, shaver points and lights.
  • The heated Ladies facility includes 4 push button shower cubicles, 5 private wash cubicles, 7 toilets with sanitary disposal and 3 further wash hand basins with soap dispenser and electric hand dryer. Mirrors and lights.
  • A Parent and Child room is available with toilet and sanitary disposal, shower, vanity unit, baby bath, soap dispenser and paper hand towels.
  • The laundry room contains a coin operated washing machine and tumble dryer, airers, washing lines, and two “butler” type hand washing sinks. There is also a small desk for Wi-Fi access with a coin operated power point.
  • The covered dishwashing area contains 4 sinks with draining boards. Under the same covered area is the site tourist information.
  • Opposite the facilities block is a motor home service area with fresh water, and drive over grey and black water drains. A further covered elsan toilet disposal point can be accessed by a path to the rear of the building.

Miscellaneous camping and touring facilities information.

  • There are 5 further fresh water points, 2 grey water drains, with rubbish bins and recycling containers throughout the site.
  • Electric wheelchair and leisure batteries can be charged on site. There is a charge of £2.50 for this service.
  • Site Reception has a small shop selling milk, bread, newspapers to order, essential groceries, ice cream and sweets, Calor and Camping Gaz.
  • The site does not have a restaurant, bar, or clubhouse, but is well served with quality pubs and restaurants locally, many within walking distance.
  • There is no children’s playground; however the village recreation ground is nearby.
  • Guests are encouraged to make use of the full range of Recycle Bins available near Reception.
  • The site is justifiably proud of its David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award and has a number of bird/animal nesting points in various locations which guests are asked to respect.

Local information.

  • The nearest bus stop is 150metres from site offering a regular and efficient service to Okehampton, Tavistock & beyond. Taxis come from a distance and are expensive.
  • Telephone numbers for doctors, hospitals and vets etc can be found in the information area. Most telephone networks work well on site and television, satellite and free-view reception is generally good.
