I’m not usually renowned for visiting club sites due to their pricing, I find them very overrated for what they are. Lydford did surprise me. This site is fairly relaxed with rules about which way you park. Some days I like to be nose in some days my other end in. Able to choose my own pitch and parked how I like. Never use camp showers but these were so clean and well presented that I did. Good motorhome service point. Friendly wardens. Good laundry room and fair reception for wifi. A very well run site although the caravan club still have some very snobby members! 2 adults, 2 nights about £46. Walking distance to gorge and pub.

Another great stay at Lydford – sadly only 1 night as we were passing through. The owners kindly managed to get us in at short notice which was brilliant!

We both love this campsite with its spectacular views of the moor and the lovely village of Lydford right next door with a fantastic tourist friendly pub! The facilities are spotless with fabulous hot showers, a wifi room, washup area and lovely little shop.

One thing that we really like is that, despite us having a pretty old scruffy campervan, we are always accepted and the other campers are friendly to us hippies haha! One day we will have a lovely new van. One day!

Always looking forward to our next visits!

Really good campsite.  Very good rates, really helpful staff, beautiful location. Everything you could want from a campsite. I camped here whilst cycling the Devon coast to coast from north to South, it made a good place to break the journey. Great food in the local pub. You can wake up to views of Dartmoor. Top notch

Wonderful site!   We’ve returned today after spending four nights at this lovely friendly, reasonably priced campsite. It’s a perfect location if you have a motorhome as the buses to Tavistock, Okehampton and Plymouth run from the end of the lane (2 minutes walk) and you have a fantastic pub (Castle Inn) and the stunning National Trust Lydford Gorge within easy walking distance in the village. Although we didn’t get a chance to use it, the Granite Way bike trail is accessed from the village as well. The site itself is immaculate and they offer free wifi (we didn’t have too many problems accessing the internet but the wardens had kindly given us a pitch that had a reasonable signal as we have a teenager!!) Some non camping friends visited us on one of the days and actually commented on the effort all the staff made to keep the site clean and tidy and we completely agree. The shower and toilet blocks seemed to be checked regularly and there was always someone around the site doing something. Yes, it’s quiet but you’d expect that on a site that doesn’t have facilities such as entertainment/pool etc. We certainly didn’t see any excessive ‘rules’ being enforced and if you’ve stayed on a caravan club site you’ll be used to many more rules and signs than there are here!

There’s a mowed dog walk around the edge of the top camping field (stunning views of Dartmoor) and a smallish sports field just down the lane if you want to give them a run. There are many more dog walking opportunities from the site however – the short walk down to Lydford Bridge is worth doing and ours loved Lydford Gorge!

My husband and son did a night’s wild camp on Dartmoor-you can access it at the side of the Dartmoor Inn (about a mile away) and they walked a couple of hours up to Great Links Tor.

Pitches are on the small side but adequate enough when you consider the grass surrounding each one.

We’ll definitely be going back to this site and would thoroughly recommend it!

Hidden gem     Great site, views, location and facilities. Shop very reasonable for essentials and local produce. Staff friendly and helpful. Spotlessly clean toilets and facilities. Recommended for those looking for peace and quiet. Photo shows view from tent.

Friendly staff  and lovely site   A lovely clean, well laid out, tidy site. Our welcome was extremely friendly and our two night stay was fun. Fab location close to Lydford Gorge.  Helpful staff were very accomodating when our VW camper would not start on the morning of our departure. Depsite the terrible weather everyone was willing to lend a hand and offer cups of tea to keep us warm and friendly chats to keep our spirits up. We will definitely be back!

Lovely site, superbly situated, smoothly run by wardens who care    Just returned from a 2 night stay in one of the most peaceful, well kept sites in Devon. The situation couldn’t be better for exploring Lydford Gorge and the surrounding countryside. The walk to the Gorge is through the lovely village past the ruins of a castle and a very nice local pub (served a very nice pint of cider which was most welcome on the way home after walking the whole of the gorge!). The wardens couldn’t have more helpful advising on walks, areas to let the dogs have a run off lead (dog walking on site perfectly adequate but on lead) and good eating places this site was truly relaxing not one of those regimented sites with signs everywhere. Yes they enforced the peace and quiet but this suited us as the couple of small children playing at the site fell silent at 9pm. So impressed we have booked to return in fortnight as we only live an hour away so it’s a perfect weekend get away.

Brilliant Site   This was the first time that we had stayed at Lydford and we will be back. It is in a wonderful location and as we always try to be green when away with our Motorhome we were able to use the buses on each day to Okehampton and Tavistock but some people went to Exeter and Plymouth. The Wardens were brilliant and could not do enough for us and everyone else on the site. The Cream Teas are great also!

A Pleasing Site  From the start, we received amazing reversing assistance (how park it on a dime !) to our T.V. wiring muddle ( they ransacked their shed for bits! ) They could not do enough it seemed, even rushing out to open the barrier each time we returned exhausted from our sorties on the moor. Please do not let on about this site, we want to get back in next time!

Friendliest Site Ever.  On arrival we had a great welcome by the friendliest staff we have ever encountered. Everything here is well organised. We were called by our name as we pulled up and the reception took time to explain the facilities, the area, local points of interest, the pubs and much more. The site is very clean and beautifully maintained and were were taken on a tour by Hazel to choose our pitch. Even the internet was FREE, reception was a bit hit and miss in places but no worse than Caravan Club sites

Peace and quiet. This is a lovely quiet but busy site with friendly wardens who are helpful and always have time for a chat.  Facilities always clean though a bit dated. Reception stocks a small amount of basics and you can order a daily newspaper if you wish. Situated on the edge of beautiful Dartmoor with easy access to explore.  National Trust Lydford Gorge is within walking distance and impressive especially after rain.  A great base to explore the area.

A site with a view.  Located on the edge of the village of Lydford with views onto Dartmoor this is an excellent base for walking and visiting the places of interest in the surrounding area. A walk of approximately a mile back to the main road takes you to an excellent farm shop, their bacon and meat is not to be missed, and then you can cross over the road onto the moor. The site is basically three fields, the upper, where the best views are, is reserved in the main for tents, the other two for caravans and campers. The field furthest from reception is slightly lower than the first and does not have WIFI coverage, which is free on site. There is a WIFI ‘hotspot’ in the laundry room with a table and chairs. The facilities are clean and tidy, perhaps not quite to the standard of the latest Club ones, and there is loads of hot water. The staff are very friendly and helpful, even to the point of offering longer hook up cables should you require them. All in all nothing to complain about and we would certainly consider returning in the future.

Excellent site for exploring Dartmoor with fantastic staff.  Beautiful position for visiting Dartmoor and a little further afield the North or South Devon coast. On arrival at the site although a little early we were met by the friendly staff who walked us around the site to find a suitable pitch. Now Lydford has the most beautiful views of the moors so the selection of the pitch to suit your vantage point for the stunning views is important. With tents on the top field and a mix of motorhomes and vans elsewhere on the site and non members welcome we felt the site was friendlier that most CC sites.  Yes we will be back and hopefully the shower block and wash facilities will have been updated, they are looking a bit jaded but nevertheless very clean. The village of Lydford is very beautiful and the NT Lydford Gorge walk (about 3 mile round trip – 2 hours) is well worth the effort with waterfalls, trout pools and a thunderous pot hole cauldron at the end absolute magic. If you fancy a night off from cooking at the Castle Inn pub is well worth a visit. Excellent choice of bar meals or restaurant. Top site let down (a little) by the facilities. Thanks to all the staff for their friendliness

First visit won’t be the last. We stayed for the first time for 5 nights in early May. We had booked and we were greeted by name. Very friendly efficient staff booked us in. We were advised on a pitch and told which way sun shone so we could take advantage of evening sunshine. All staff very friendly. Toilet block warm and clean. Walking distance to lovely village pub and NT Lydford Gorge. We fully intend to return as it was a top class site.

Excellent quiet site – Phil & Sandra from North Lincolnshire (Caravan Club members for many years) have just had an excellent 8 nights on this clean and well managed site in Lydford. All the management staff were some of the most helpful people we have ever met and nothing was too much trouble. The site is very well kept and the toilet block is spotlessly clean; we would not hesitate in using the site in the future

Jackie & Cliff. We visit this site 2 to 3 times a year and find the wardens very friendly and most helpful .The facilities are great and the overall tidiness of the site is of top quality and would recommend this site to anybody wishing to have a good and perfect stay.

A great weekend  After 40 years of camping under canvas, we decided to buy a motorhome and join the Caravan Club. Via the website, we found this campsite in Lydford and decided on this for our first motorhome adventure. What a great choice! The welcome was friendly and helpful despite the fact that we arrived very late due to traffic. Never the less, we were given a choice of excellent pitches, each with an excellent view of Dartmoor. We were also given leaflets and advice on local walking as well as an opportunity to browse the used book section in the reception area. The money raised from this is used to fundraise for local projects. As recommended, the walking in Lydford Gorge was excellent. The site was really very well  cared for by staff, spotlessly clean and peaceful. We can’t recommend it enough.

Top Class.  Stayed here over Ten Tors week-end early May 2015.Excellent service and attitude from helpful staff, clean, tidy, quiet, great views….what more can i say.great meal at Castle PH short walk away.We will be back!!

Devon Delight.  I have just come back from 2 nights at the campsite staying in a camper van.  The site is clean, showers hot and all the facilities you would expect from a caravan club recommended site.  BUT it is its situation that makes it so special. You can walk to Lydford Gorge (National Trust) through the lovely village. The Gorge has a number of walks following the river with waterfalls and bridges. Also a delightful tea room!  The owners of the camp site were particularly friendly and recommended the local pub which was a 5 minutes walk. The Castle inn served excellent food and allowed us to bring in our dogs.  A nice sized campsite in lovely surroundings.

We camped here during Easter. The staff were wonderful as were the facilities and after long days hiking we needed a hot shower. Bathrooms were clean and functional. Love that there is a mop left out to clean up after yourself . The camping field was lovely and peaceful and only a short walk from the bathrooms. Very close to everywhere we wanted to visit and the views of the moors were lovely. We will definitely return.
