Tavistock Trout Fishery

Tavistock Trout Fishery has five lovely fly fishing lakes that are nestled on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park and are fed from the River Tavy.

Lovely freshwater keeps the weed growth to a minimum and our oxygen levels high. This explains how they can grow lovely specimen trout that are fighting fit, with good tails and taste good!

The lakes are stocked most days with Triploid Rainbow Trout and every week with Triploid Brown Trout, Tiger trout, Blue trout and Golden Trout. Our record Rainbow at the time of printing stands at 31lbs-11oz and our Record Brown is 16lb-4oz. The fly fishing lakes opened in 1991 and have been popular ever since.

Trout Fishing at Roadford Lake

Set in the rolling Devon hills on the edge of Dartmoor, Roadford offers more than 700 acres of Brown Trout fishing to explore by boat or bank. There are many little bays and inlets to explore making it very appealing. Roadford is one of the best Brown Trout fisheries in the UK and has provided outstanding fishing in the past few seasons particularly by boat but some equally good catches have been from the bank.

There have been multiple catches of 30+ fish by boat in a single day and numerous fish over 5lb caught and released. Roadford also has good hatches of Hawthorn flies in May which provide terrific dry fly fishing.

There are boats for hire, but booking is essential to avoid disappointment. Self-launch for float-tubing and kayak fishing is available at Roadford – please contact the staff on site.

Please note: permits are only available to purchase online.

The Arundell Arms

Voted Best Fishing School in the UK by The Field Magazine, The Arundell Arms Hotel has been one of England’s premier fishing hotels for more than half a century.

The charm of their rivers is that they are wild. They control the fishing rights on seven different rivers, the Tamar and six tributaries, all natural spate rivers draining the moors and the high ground of the Westcountry. Private fishing is available on a total of 20 miles of river bank, anglers can have up to a mile of water to themselves for the day.

If you do not have your own tackle you can hire everything you need from them. They also have a well-stocked tackle shop with the latest fishing equipment and a comprehensive selection of local flies. If you get drenched they also have a very efficient drying room.

They teach fishing, run courses for beginners, sell tackle, give advice and provide maps of their fishing.

The responsibility to have a licence is that of the angler. Licences must be obtained before fishing.
